Buccaneer Turtle Steak

      • 2 lbs turtle steak
      • 3 tbsp lime juice
      • 2 tsps garlic powder
      • 1 tbsp black pepper
      • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
      • 2 medium yellow onions, sliced
      • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
      • 1 chili pepper, diced
      • 1 tsp garlic powder
      • 1 tsp dried thyme
      • 2 cans stewed tomatoes
      • 2 tsp seasoning salt
      • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
      • 3 tbsp Pickapeppa Sauce
      • 2 tbsp Tortuga Gold Rum

Cut the turtle steak into 4 to 6 pieces. Using a meat mallet, tenderize the steak until each piece is about one inch thick. Season with garlic, black pepper and lime juice. Marinate in refrigerater for one hour. Heat oil over medium high heat in a large skillet. Brown turtle steaks on each side. Add onions and peppers. Cook until vegetables start to soften, stirring frequently. Add remaining ingredients and stir well, reduce heat to low, cover and simmer. Cook for one hour or until turtle comes apart with a fork and the sauce has thickened. Serve with rice and peas.
